First Aid
There’s a growing need to support Mental Health in the home and workplace. And with Te Pou’s Mental Health First Aid Aotearoa 4th edition by Betty Kitchener, Anthony Jorm and Claire Kelly the opportunity is here.
But where do you start? And how can you tell what will make a genuine longer-term positive impact on your people’s wellbeing? The Mental Health First Aid Program can help.
Learn About Us
I was born in Australia and married into a Pasifika, Maori blended whanau (families).
As a Mental Health First Aider and instructor it is crucial to ask the person how they want to be engaged culturally and at what level and to respect their decision. Someone may wish to be engaged through a predominant Te Reo Maori worldview (Te Reo, Tikanga, whakapapa) and others may identify as Pasifika.
Pasifika considers good health as the ability of a person to fulfill their spiritual and social obligations and maintain these relationships. Any forms of disruption to these relationships will contribute to illness including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and other issues. The Niuean concept, “Mata ki Luga” refers to looking up and ensuring that you get support.

Testimonials
Dan Oatridge
Vikki truly is an amazing woman who consistently puts the needs of others above her own for the betterment of the bigger picture. This is not always easy to do, but Vikki does it all with a huge smile on her face and a level of kindness and empathy many can only aspire to.
I highly recommend Vikki not just as a facilitator of Mental Health First Aid workshops but also as a top-quality human being.
Love your work, Vikki!
Gareth Beck
I attended a Mental Health First Aid course led by Vikki and was welcomed into the learning environment by Vikki who was able to create a safe and engaging space. My knowledge around Mental Health was limited before attending but the MHFA course opened my eyes to what challenges people deal with on a day to day basis. The course itself gives you actionable things to do when you see someone struggling with mental health challenges and have been able to use the tools provided in the training since with peers, friends and family.
